Sustainability in practice at AQUA DOME - Tyrol Therme Längenfeld

Preserve. Relax. Experience.

As a leading company in the Ötztal valley, AQUA DOME is committed to doing its part and reducing its CO2 emissions. A lot has already been achieved when it comes to sustainability, and a whole catalog of further measures is currently underway – we are working hard to obtain Austrian Ecolabel certification as soon as possible. All our decisions are based on the principle of “give and take”, which is being lived throughout VAMED Vitality World. Especially when it comes to precious resources like water and energy, responsible usage is crucial. Wherever technically possible, sustainable cycles are in place or will be implemented.

Green steps

The truth is both hard and clear: the most eco-friendly kilowatt-hour is one that is not used. We communicate this message to our suppliers, employees, and guests. And we’d like to invite you to join us in our efforts and take the many small green steps together, as we can only achieve our goal with your support!

Mobility

We recommend traveling to AQUA DOME by train. Ötztal train station is served by many fast long-distance connections. And from early 2025, you can reach us quickly and comfortably by e-bus, using our guest shuttle! By the way, hotel guests can use all public transport in the Ötztal valley free of charge. We’ve also set up a shuttle service for employees from the residential park – which reduces local traffic.

Energy

AQUA DOME was planned and built as a low-energy building and is connected to the Längenfeld district heating network. In addition, a 268 kWp PV system and a heat recovery system are in operation. All energy flows are monitored via a central control system. The technical manager of AQUA Dome, Markus Reinalter, is constantly evaluating further possibilities for energy optimization.

In some areas, minor changes have led to a drastic reduction in energy consumption without compromising overall comfort. For example, the temperature in the corridors has been turned down 2°C, LED lamps have been installed in the outdoor areas, and Christmas lighting has been scaled back. Outdoor lighting (apart from for the spa logo) is switched off at 10 p.m., garage lighting is minimized at night, and the portable outdoor heaters have been taken out of service. The EV charging station will be subject to a fee in future.

Saunas and steam rooms are controlled so that the operating times meet our guests' needs while also being energy-optimized. To reduce the mountains of towels, there are now only two distribution points: at the spa information desk and the SPA 3000 Bar.

We kindly ask our guests to save energy in the rooms by using the master switch and to only use electric towel dryers when absolutely necessary.

Regional and sustainable, from the Ötztal valley

Our own signature line, thermal deep, is 100% regional and vegan. Wherever possible, we source our food from local farmers and businesses, and for some time now, we've been growing our kitchen herbs in our own herb garden. The planned flower meadow will hopefully bring us one step closer to our own bee colony in 2025, which has been on our sustainability wish list for some time.

We are very proud of our “AQUA DOME spring water – from here”. We filter it in-house, bottle it ourselves and save on environmentally harmful transport by not buying in mineral water bottles.

We also took great care to incorporate regional elements into the design of our rooms. Most of the work was done by tradespeople from the surrounding area.

Waste management

As much as guests like them, at the end of the day, the nicest flip-flops end up in the trash. That's why we don't provide them: Our guests bring their own, and they fit easily in any suitcase. Shower gel and lotion are provided in refillable dispensers.

Vegetarian and vegan cuisine is good for the carbon footprint, and is also becoming increasingly popular. We avoid food waste wherever we can. In future, organic waste will be compressed.

Stronger together

Since October 2022, the Ötztal region has had a sustainability manager with whom we regularly exchange ideas. We also raise our employees' awareness of sustainability through regular training.

Because we still need to implement many green steps to achieve greater sustainability and environmental awareness - there’s still a long way to go!
